Another milestone reached

I’ve been wondering when Jessalyn was going to roll over. A lot of babies reach this milestone in their fourth month. Not Jessalyn. She’s 5 months and 5 days now. I wasn’t concerned that something was wrong simply because her fine motor skills are tuning themselves all the time. The can grasp at an item and wrap her fingers around it in order to hold it. She does this with rattles, toys, and pretty much anything within her reach.

However, she hadn’t mastered (or even achieved) the task of rolling over. Until today that is. This morning, just a few minutes ago, she was lying on the floor while I clipped coupons and cleaned off the coffee table. She scrunched into a ball as she often does and tried rolling. No dice. She tried again and failed. Then the third time was a charm as they say. She scrunched, rolled, and then looked totally confused as to why she was now face down on the blanket.

In my excitement I scooped her up, hugging her and bragging at her, and ran to the calendar to mark the day.

She’s one step closer to mobility.

Congratulations on the awesome achievement today Jessalyn!

I took pictures of Jessalyn on the new ATW (All Terrain Wagon) and thought I’d share the pictures.

28 years ago on this day I was born. On our Jason and Jen website I did a lil bio of me if you wanted to do some catching up. Its geared more towards my professional life but well, that is me in a nutshell.

Family update

I’ve had limited success with the day time naps in the crib. Jessalyn does go to sleep on her own now, but she doesn’t stay asleep long. The first day I did it, she slept for 2 whole hours. Now it’s more like 30 minutes to an hour.

She’s enjoying her solids though. I’ve given her rice cereal and bananas at this point. A few more times with bananas and then we’ll add in apples. Her reflex is to push it out, but once she gets going, she swallows most of it. She even opens her mouth to request more, and when I’m not quick enough with the next bite, she hollers at me to speed it up.

Night time is still touch and go. She does well, waking only once in the night for a feeding, and then back to sleep. Then again 4 hours later for another feeding and then that usually ends in snuggles in our bed for the remainder of the night. Some night’s she’s up every hour, some she sleeps well. I’m hoping things even out soon. The lack of sleep is really difficult for me.

Due to last weekends rain, we were unable to take Caitlin to tryouts for softball. Looks like we’ll have nice weather this weekend, so she’s scheduled to tryout tomorrow. Every child is picked for a team, it’s just a matter of the coaches evaluating each player and then they have to fight it out to get the players they want.

Caitlin has girl scouts tonight and I suspect the cookie sale order forms will go out tonight. Place your orders people!

Christian isn’t participating in any sports at the moment. He’s been busy pounding away on the electronic drum set his father got him for Christmas. He’s not bad when he actually gives it a good try. Most of the time it’s just banging away at it though.

Jason’s birthday is this Sunday. Still in his 20’s though. The fact that I’ve switched decades makes me feel old old old compared to him. I didn’t get him a tangible gift. I did, however, arrange to have a babysitter soon so we can go out to a movie. That’s one of his favorite things to do. I couldn’t care any less about going to the movies though. I do it because I love.

Me? Well things are the same. I busy myself with wifely duties and taking care of Jessalyn. She’s a full time job. A job that I love 99% of the time. It’s that 1% when I’m changing stinky diapers or calming a screaming child that I don’t love. But it’s all part of the package isn’t it?

What’s in a surname?

From BBC:

Everyone’s got a surname, but now a website which maps names against areas of the country where they are most common helps shed light on where our families come from.

See how Tuckers, Walkers and Fullers have dispersed

Its weird to see your last name on a website like BBC. Once the site calms down a bit I’m going to look up Tucker and see what it says. I had no clue that many Tuckers were there.

I just found a box of old photos in the garage. In it I found a picture of Caitlin at 4 months and a picture of Christian at 4 months. So I’m posting them here in order to have a visual comparison between the 3 babies.

Caitlin @ 4 months

Christian @ 4 months

Jessalyn with PermaShock(tm) @ 4 months

PermaShock is a (non)registered trademark belonging to Jess. The girl may be all smiles but when the camera comes out, this is the face she usually makes at it.

Also? I swear Caitlin wasn’t that pasty white.

Batting Cages

Tonight was our datenight; Caitlin was 3rd wheeling it (we don’t count Jessalyn as a wheel since shes stuck to us no matter what). Caitlin switched up her weekly visit to her Grand Parents house, she use to go every wednesday (they would spend the night then in the morning they would drive them to school) now she wants to go every other week. You gotta love pre-teens. Anyhow, so we took Caitlin to the batting changes in Anaheim on Beach Blvd. She hit 7 bucks worth of balls and put forth a decent effort doing so. After that we went to Fudruckers for dinner and then came home and watched TV. I hope this little batting practice will help her for tryouts. I may end up taking her again before then.

The doctor told us we could have Jess start eating Rice Cereal so we gave it a shot tonight and it worked pretty well.

Caitlin starting softball

This weekend Caitlin has tryouts for softball so expect many pictures (and video too!) of her playing. I know lately the site has been “whats Jessalyn doing today” and I expect that to change more to what the family is doing. I’ve taken hundreds of pictures of Caitlin playing softball, and knowing me there will be hundreds more to be taken this season as well.

On the left of the website I’ve added each of the family members names (see picture on the left), if you click on their name you will see all the entries about that person. More categories will being to appear as we post more about what is going on in the family.
